Deafax is an international organization runs several projects in the developing countries. There main intentions are to improve the quality of life of the deaf people by utilizing modern technology. Some of the activities include, improving numeracy and literacy skills with help of technology, training teachers of the deaf on latest products. Helping the hearing impaired during the times of transition and employment.
Deaf Child India is a 6 year project of Deafax. There main aim was to develop the literacy and communication skills of the hearing impaired children particularly in Tamilnadu.
Development Education Empowerment for the Disadvantaged in Society (DEEDS)
DEEDS, a Mumbai based non governmental organization was started in 2003 by a group of business man. The organization deals with the hearing impaired. They provide free education, free vocational training and ensuring job placements.
Family Care Foundation
Family Care Foundation is an international not-for-profit charity organization which runs several projects in India. Following are some of those organisations.
Deaf Reach was established in 1991 in Hyderabad. The charity in cooperation with UNICEF runs several programs for the young adults. Some of their programs include leadership training, computer training Interpreter training and deaf awareness and counseling.
The trust was started in 2001, an autonomous body with services offering in both Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Some of their objectives include: Providing leadership training, marriage counseling, self-employment program and training in computer technology.
Family Services Vizag was started in the city of Vishakapatnam in AP. The organization helps the young hearing impaired individuals to develop skills in adjusting to the society and to overcome the psychological and emotional effect of the handicap on them.
The charity is based in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The main aim of the organization is to promote computer education for the deaf with help of National institute of hearing handicap, Hyderabad. Now the organization started their services in Mysore.
I Hear Foundation was started in Mumbai which deals mainly with infants and young babies. The organizations goals are to develop a centre of excellence in screening infants and providing auditory verbal practice through their Naad Project. Their motto is early identification and early intervention.
Indian Deaf Children's Society
The IDCS is an in country strategy of the International deaf children society.
Kerala Association of the Deaf
Noida Deaf Society was founded to provide educational and vocational training to the hearing impaired in and around Noida. Their goal is to mainstream the hearing impaired into the community through dedicated vocational programs leading to job placements.
Research Education & Audiological Development Society (READS)
READS was started in 1987 by a Speech and Hearing professional in Rajasthan. The organization runs special school which is recognized by Social Welfare Dept. (Govt. of India) for hearing impaired children. There main goals are to mainstream hearing impaired children by providing them the necessary communication skills.
Rotary international (Rotary club Newport Balboa, California and rotary club Mysore) help the hearing impaired in India through supporting Dr Rajdesai�s project, Project deaf India. The organization is into prevention, early identification and intervention of hearing impaired children. Project Deaf India focuses on total communication schools and technical education for Hearing Impaired in India.
Sense International (India) is the first non governmental organization which supports deaf blind. It was started in 1997 with intentions to develop comprehensive services fro deaf blind with the help of several partners in 19 states. They focus on mainstreaming the deaf blind individuals and providing support and advice to the families of deafblind.
Society to Aid the Hearing Impaired (SAHI)
SAHI was started by a group of Medical professionals & concerned citizens in Hyderabad. They help the hearing impaired by conducting rural camps, public awareness, providing hearing aids and also assisting in the treatment of ear related disease.
The Commonwealth Society for the Deaf
It is a UK based charity which runs several projects that deals with the deaf children in the developing commonwealth countries. Their HARK project based in Tiruvannamalai, provides hearing screening and treatment to ear related diseases in the low economic communities of Tamilnadu through a fully equipped van.
National Association of the Deaf
NAD fights to demand the rights of Deaf people from government and policy makers. The association promotes the quality of life, equal right and equal opportunities for the hearing impaired. Their main aim is to foster a united front of all the hearing impaired across whole India.
